Fr. Mike Schmitz on What Jesus Needs From You

agony

We were blessed by the brief reflection below from Fr. Mike Schmitz, and are happy to share it with you today, just ahead of the sacred Triduum.

As we journey into Holy Week, we invite you to:

  • Take 5 minutes to prayerfully listen to this video reflection by Fr. Mike.

  • Choose a place or two in Jesus’ journey (e.g., Gethsemane, his arrest, his encounter with Pilate, the scourging at the pillar), and just “stay with Him” there for an extended period of prayer. As you stay with Him, surrender your need for — in Fr. Mike’s words — “solutions, speech, or speed.”

  • Ask, “Where is Jesus inviting me to stay with Him in my own life?” Choose a place or two  (e.g., marriage, work, relationship with a child, a place of pain or woundedness) in which you can stay with Jesus anew, resisting the desire for quick fixes.

In our age of instant gratification, it is increasingly hard to enter into Holy Week at the “pace of grace,” in a way that truly allows us to “watch and pray” with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But despite the difficulty, let’s stay with him.

If we generously give Jesus our time, watchfulness, and presence this Holy Week, he will invite us more deeply into his via crucis, his death, the great silence of Holy Saturday, and then the joy of Easter!

Our Heaven in Your Home Letters will return on Apr. 14th. Happy and blessed Easter!
